GT3. Three characters which symbolise decades of race engineering distilled and re-worked to create the most precise and engaging road cars from the famous Stuttgart brand. Many will claim to have favourites, but for many, the second generation of Porsche 997 is upheld as ‘peak’ GT3. The 997.2 GT3 was produced in 2010 and 2011, featuring the legendary Mezger engine in 3.8 guise. This was larger than the 3.6 found in its predecessor, resulting in 435 BHP and an increased redline from 8,250 to 8,500 rpm offering a visceral experience.
The 997.2 GT3 is often viewed as one of the last “analogue” GT3s, with a naturally aspirated engine and a six-speed manual transmission. It arrived just before Porsche began incorporating more electronic aids and dual-clutch transmissions in its GT models. This combination of analog feel and modern performance makes it highly desirable among purists and collectors alike. This, teamed with its limited production numbers following the financial crisis, and reputation of being a true ‘drivers car’ have made the 997.2 GT3 one of the greatest road-going neunelfer’s ever produced.
